He joined Newcastle United at the age of eight and has been the stand-out performer for the majority of Newcastle's Under-21 games. Roberts is quick, skilful and intelligent going forward. He made his senior debut, coming on as a second-half substitute against Leicester City in 'that' fateful FA Cup game in which John Carver fielded an array of non-first-team players. The midfielder then signed a full-time contract with his hometown club a month later.
