The combative midfielder was resting an already sore ankle sustained on the field, when, during his recovery period, his pride and joy inexplicably ran over his injured limb with her tricycle, condemning the England man to a few more weeks on the sidelines than first planned.

Many will remember Batty as the player who missed the crucial penalty to send England out of the 1998 World Cup, but on a lighter note, Batty himself will no doubt look back on his tricycle mishap with a smile now he sits comfortably in retirement.
