Andre Villas-Boas: 5 Clubs That Could Give Him A Route Back Into Management

By Jamie Clark /

Andre Villas-Boas was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur after 17-and-a-half months in charge on Monday in the wake of a 5-0 home defeat by fellow top four hopefuls Liverpool. The Portuguese coach, 36, is a famous protégé of compatriot Jose Mourinho, but has now seen the early promise of his coaching career replaced by dismissals from two London Premier League clubs. AVB recorded a Portuguese league, cup and Europa League treble in his only season in charge of Porto in 2010-11. That overnight success saw him touted as The Special One Mark Two. Villas-Boas then attracted the attention of Chelsea, but lasted less than nine months in the Stamford Bridge hotseat. Here, his handling of senior players, who he was barely older than himself, proved his undoing. Yet AVB was not out of management long €“ four months to be precise. Tottenham finished fourth under Harry Redknapp in 2011-12, but missed out on Champions League football as Chelsea lifted the European Cup with Roberto Di Matteo in caretaker charge. Given a second chance to prove himself in England, Villas-Boas steered Spurs to fifth in last season's Premier League, but now finds himself without a job again. We look at five clubs that could come calling for his services.
