Arsenal are reportedly set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Turkish international Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan deal, according to the Daily Mail. The Real Madrid midfielder is set to choose North London over the Anfield club in a deal they claim will be completed within the next 24 hours. Sahin has reportedly been on the radar of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger all summer, and after the Gunners lost captain Robin van Persie to Manchester United this week, the veteran Arsenal boss will be keen to appease the fans who may be starting to doubt The Gunners' direction after losing their star man to a direct Premier League and Champions League rival. The 23-year-old is now seen as the replacement for midfield enforcer Alex Song who is set to join Barcelona in the next few days. Sahin made just 11 appearances for La Liga champions Real Madrid last season but after failing to become a first team regular, boss Jose Mourinho decided it was in his best intentions to ply his trade away from the Santiago Bernabeu for a season. Wenger will be hoping the new additions of Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Grioud as well as the potential of Nuri Sahin, may bode a promising future for Arsenal and an improvement on last season, although their disappointing opening day 0-0 draw against Sunderland points towards the same problems as last season... their inability to beat teams outside of the top six at home.
