Arsenal Transfer News: Robin Van Persie in Gigantic Contract Offer

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood insists that the Gunners have not yet received any offers for captain Robin Van Persie.

Italian champions Juventus had made a low-ball £8 million offer to try and unsettle the Euro 2012 star, with another improved bid expected to come later this week. 28-year-old Van Persie has just one year left to run on his contract and would be able to agree a pre-contract free transfer to any club from January. Despite the fear of losing him for nothing, Hill-Wood insists that the striker is not for sale. Hill-Wood said:

"As far as I am aware nobody has made any offer for him and he is away so we are not in any dialogue at all. "We're not in the remotest bit interested in selling him."
Of course Arsenal said the exact same thing last summer about star midfielder Samir Nasri, who was in the exact same situation and ended up moving to eventual Premier League champions Manchester City late in the transfer window for £25 million. Roberto Mancini would love to bring Van Persie to City but has cooled interest recently after it became apparent Arsenal wanted a similar Nasri fee for the player and isn't prepared to spend that much on a player who is that close to thirty. The Sun reports that Wenger has urged the Arsenal board to break the big with an astronomical contract offer to keep the player who scored over 30 years goal last season.
