Arsenal Transfers: 5 Last-Minute Signings For Wenger To Target

By James Kent /

5. Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid)

Diego Costa has been linked with a move to the Gunners, and reports earlier this month suggested that they were prepared to pay £32m in order to secure his services. Nevertheless, up to this point, no deal has materialised for the Atletico Madrid star. It€™s not difficult to see why Arsenal would want to add him to their squad given the 19 goals he has scored from 18 La Liga starts; in terms of European football, only Cristiano Ronaldo (20) and Luis Suarez (22) have scored more. Costa has also been more economical in his scoring as he takes just 3.2 shots per game, which is considerable less than both Ronaldo (7.8) and Suarez (5.8). The player doesn€™t offer a huge amount from the creative point of view with only one assist recorded this season, but that won€™t faze Arsene Wenger as he has other players that can do that job. What Arsenal really need is another natural goalscorer, and the Brazilian is certainly that. One further note is that he can also play in an attacking midfield position €“ but that isn€™t the role that he has generally been used in this season.
