Arsenal were interested in West Ham's defensive midfielder back in January and were linked with him for much of the winter window, after it was revealed the 26-year-old had a release clause of just £3.5 million. Diame's market value made him an attractive option to the Gunners, as did the aggression that he brings to the table. The Frenchman is a huge midfield powerhouse and operates in a box-to-box role, and is highly physical. Last season, he won 78% of his attempted tackles and is the sort of take-no-prisoners character Arsenal need. Diame isn't just defensively-minded, he attacks the ball, too. He scored three times last season, and has a further 12 shots on target, proving he isn't afraid to get into the thick of the action either. But the Gunners seemed to have cooled their interest since January and it remains to be seen if it will be renewed.
