I think the biggest positive to talk about with Villa right now is the defensive record they have. Ill be honest, I didnt think that Lambert even knew the meaning of the word defence, but one of the reasons that he is such a good manager is because he learns quickly. When he first arrived in the Premier League with Norwich he certainly wanted to be an attacking manager, and it was a similar story with Villa last season. Stats from Who Scored illustrates this point pretty well as his team conceded 69 goals in the league last season, only relegated sides Wigan and Reading conceded more. However, this season the team has conceded just 25 goals this season from 20 games which works out as the eighth best record in the league. There is no doubt that this is a massive improvement and certainly something that Villa fans should be looking at as a massive positive of the season so far. If they can keep to this defensive standard then they are well on their way to being a decent EPL outfit.
