This weekend sees a hotly anticipated return to Premier League action after the imposed hiatus of the international break. Fans and players alike will be looking forward to getting back to club football. I will be looking at Aston Villa v Newcastle a game in which both teams will be looking to accentuate their respective abilities. Aston Villa After a strong finish to the season under Paul Lambert last term, Aston Villa were handed a bleak set of starting fixtures for the 13-14 campaign. After making some really good acquisitions in the summer transfer window and moving on some of the 'dead wood' many were unsure what to expect from Villa this term. An opening day 3-1 away demolition of a slow starting Arsenal was thoroughly deserved and perhaps illustrated the capabilities of this young Villa squad. Two successive competitively battled defeats against title challengers Chelsea (2-1) and a rejuvenated Liverpool (1-0) though, should leave Paul Lambert's men chomping at the bit for this encounter. The last meeting of the two teams at Villa Park ended in a 1-2 away win for Newcastle, although this seemed very much to be a turning point in Villa's season. A very spirited second half performance earned the team a standing ovation from the Villa faithful. Indeed after that game Villa went on to win six and draw three of their remaining fourteen games. So after a tough start in which Villa may feel aggrieved to be sat on only three points can this fixture once again be a springboard for another rich vein of Villa form? In terms of selection it seems as though Paul Lambert has an abundance of talent to pick through, with only long term absentee and former Mag Charles N'Zogbia unavailable for selection due to an Achilles injury. Both Nathan Baker and Antonio Luna are expected to be back in contention after recent niggles. After going twenty five Premier League games without a clean sheet Paul Lambert will be hoping for better in this game. He is likely to stick with the high intensity counter attacking tactics he has employed previously, subsequently I think we will see him deploy his team as a variation of 4-5-1 ( 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3). Newcastle After a season in which most associated with the club would much rather forget, very little has changed in order to remove the overwhelming gloom hanging over Newcastle United. A summer which promised personnel reinforcements resulted in just one loan addition to the first team in Loic Remy. A starting fixture away to Manchester City was always going to be tough but not many fans were expecting to have to endure the lackluster performance which resulted in a comprehensive 4-0 drubbing. Following this up with one of the least eventful games Premier League audiences are likely to witness this season was hardly the remedy either. The 0-0 home stalemate against Sam Allardyce's West Ham side illustrating further Newcastle's lack of attacking edge. Another very average performance from Newcastle in their 1-0 home win against an equally average Fulham side prior to the international break hasn't stemmed the negativity on Tyneside just yet. Newcastle will be looking to build on successive clean sheets and may have some key figures to welcome back into the team. Although Newcastle have only won two of their last twenty one away games in the Premier League one of those was this fixture last season. In fact Newcastle are unbeaten in the last four meetings between these two clubs. Newcastle will look to take advantage of a Villa defense without a clean sheet in twenty five Premier League games. To do this they will have to be more efficient in attack as they managed twenty five shots against Fulham the joint-most of any team in a single game this term but still only managed to break the deadlock via the brilliance of Hatem Ben Arfa. For Newcastle there are also very few injury worries ahead of this game. Long term casualty Ryan Taylor is out for the season while Jonas Gutierrez and Gabby Obertan face late fitness tests. Cheick Tiote is now fit to return to the side and Steven Taylor has now completed his suspension so both are available for selection by Alan Pardew. Yohan Cabaye is likely to start the game and Loic Remy will almost certainly feature possibly from the start too. With the players available for selection a lot of fans will be hoping that Alan Pardew switches to the favoured 4-3-3 formation. Although he has stated he would like to play two players up front this season I am going to stick my neck on the line and predict he will deploy the 4-3-3. Likely Line-UpsAston Villa: Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Okore, Luna; Westwood, Delph, Bacuna; Weimann, Benteke, Agbonlahor. - Deployed as a 4-3-3 Newcastle: Krul, Debuchy, Coloccini, Yanga-Mbiwa, Santon; Tiote, Sissoko, Cabaye; Ben Arfa, Cisse, Remy. - Deployed as a 4-3-3 Match Prediction Although I would like to see a Newcastle win personally I am going with a reverse of last season's fixture a 2-1 win for Villa. I think the Newcastle defense will struggle with the pace and power of the Villa attacking line. It will take a big improvement from Newcastle in an attacking sense to come out of this game with a win. What do you all think? What team/formation should each team start with? and most importantly who will win? source - bbc sport
