Chelsea Transfer News: Blues In Advanced Talks To Sign Christian Atsu

By Joseph Dempsey /

Sky Sports sources. Blues boss Jose Mourinho is believed to be keen to land the 21-year-old before next Monday's transfer deadline for a bargain fee. Atsu is into the final year of his contract at the Estádio do Dragão and Chelsea are hoping to snap him up for as little as £3.5 million. Porto have failed repeatedly to convince the starlet to pen a new contract and are now keen to sell the player as he could set up an arrangement in January to leave for nothing next summer. The Ghanaian first came to prominence after Porto loaned him out to Rio Ave two seasons ago, where he scored 6 goals in 27 games and earned a reputation as a quick, direct and skillful winger. Chelsea's move for Atsu comes as they appear to have given up on their hopes to sign Manchester United's Wayne Rooney. Mourinho had said earlier in the summer that the striker was his only summer target but that stance now appears to have changed after Rooney refused to hand in a transfer request to leave. United have continuously insisted the England star is not for sale this summer.
