TEAMtalk have linked to a story from the site, claiming that the Real Madrid man is interested in pushing through a sensational move back to Old Trafford if bosses at the Santiago Bernabéu fail to appoint the right man to replace Zinedine Zidane as manager.

Rumours persist of a fractious relationship between the player and Real president Florentino Perez, and the 33-year old may thus decide the time is right to make a grand return to the Premier League.

This story comes hot on the heels of reports that Ronaldo's teammate Gareth Bale is a top target for United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward in the transfer window. It'll be interesting to see how this story develops, because it seems logical to assume Woodward's team won't pursue both CR7 and Bale.

Ronaldo left Man Utd in 2009 for a then-world record fee of £80 million. It'd probably take significantly more than that to convince Madrid's hierarchy that he's worth selling during a period of uncertainty for the Spanish giants.
