2. Another Different Team

One of the biggest problems for English teams in Europe is the simple fact that it€™s normally only the same 4 or 5 clubs that ever make it into Europe. For example Arsenal have qualified for the Champions League ever year for the last 15 seasons which is an amazing achievement but in all those tries the Gunners have only ever made one final appearance without ever winning the trophy.

It€™s time for other teams to have a go looking to show off their skills on a big European stage and Everton have been the most unlucky of all the English teams trying to get into the Champions League. Their last European success was back in 1985 winning the Cup Winner€™s Cup but failed to get into the European cup the next season due to a ban on English clubs after the horrible unforgettable Heysel incident.

In 2005 Everton did finish 4th in the table but that was the season Liverpool won the Champions league leaving lots of debate about having 5 English teams in the competition. The whole incident forced a UEFA rule change but left Everton going to Villarreal to try and qualify for the group stages but they lost a close tie. Everton have not finished in the top 4 since but have stayed in the top 10 most seasons but you feel the club's amazing progress would be fully justified with a Champions League run.

Other new clubs from the Premier League are breaking into Europe all the time, this season was only Manchester City€™s second season in the Champions League . Next season both Swansea and Wigan will grace the pitches of Europe for the very first time so seeing a new English team in the Champions League would be very refreshing.
