FifPro XI: 11 Players Who Statistically Should Have Been In

By Joshua Jones /

7. Oliver Sorg - SC Freiburg

Position: Full-Back Age: 23 Market Value: £2.4 million Previous Clubs: SC Freiburg II German National Sorg, who is said to have impressed Arsenal scouts, is the second full-back in the Stats XI. Having impressed in performances so far this season for Freiburg, it wouldn't be surprising if a so-called 'big club' came knocking for the 23 year old defender. Sorg makes, on average, 3.7 tackles per game and intercepts 2.7 balls per game - meaning he breaks down at least 6 attacks per appearance. Sorg played an integral part in Freiburg's 5th placed Bundesliga finish in 2012-13 and helped them progress to the semi-finals of the German Cup - eventually qualifying for the 2013-14 Europe League, where they were knocked out in the Group Stage after losing to eventual group winners Sevilla. On top of his brilliant break-up stats, Sorg also commits less than one foul a game, making him a brilliantly clean player to have in your team. As well as this, he clears 3.7 balls a game, and has cleared a total of 55 balls so far this season for Freiburg. In 2013, Sorg was named at number 35 in Bloomberg's best footballers in Europe - above the FIFPro XI players such as Phillip Lahm and Dani Alves, as well as Robert Lewandowski and Yaya Toure.
