Liverpool Transfer News: Barcelona Want Daniel Agger?

By Joseph Dempsey /

Telegraph. Reports in Spanish media suggest a bid has been lodged by Barcelona for the 28-year-old, with the Spanish champions offering £14 million. However, Liverpool value the Denmark international closer to the £30 million mark, which was the fee they quoted Manchester City when they came calling last summer. There is concern at Anfield that Barca will be more successful in their pursuits than City were, however, so much so that Martin Skrtel has been asked to commit his immediate future to the club. Agger joined the Reds from Brøndby in 2006 and has made over 200 appearances for the Merseyside outfit, winning the FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield in that time. He has twice been voted Danish Football Player of the Year, most recently in 2012, and has become an integral member of the Liverpool team, making 35 Premier League appearances last season. Meanwhile, Agger's former defensive partner Jamie Carragher, who announced his retirement this summer, has slammed striker Luis Suarez. The Red's legend has backed manager Brendan Rodgers' decision to ban the Uruguayan from training with the first-team squad as the 26-year-old's bitter dispute with the club intensifies. Carragher told Sky Sports News:

"I know Luis and I've played with him in the last couple of years and he's a warrior. He's a fighter on the pitch and every day in training. He never misses a session. "I went in to Friday training before Stevie's (Gerrard's) testimonial and that wasn't the Luis Suarez I knew. I think it's right for Brendan Rodgers to take him out of the group because no one player is bigger than the team or the squad."
