Liverpool Transfer News: Newcastle United's Ben Arfa In, Andy Carroll Out?

By Simon Gallagher /

The Telegraph), that he would strongly consider a move to PSG...

€œPSG resonates in my heart, playing there would be a beautiful gift. Every time I go to the Parc people ask me €˜when are you coming to PSG?€™ PSG is part of me. I had posters of all the players when I was little. The Parc des Princes is 15 minutes from where I live. €œPSG is the club of my heart. If there€™s an offer for me then I€™ll study it with interest. If there€™s an offer. The €˜if€™ is important. "...First of all I have to save my club. I€™m only thinking of that. Once the club is safe, you never know. Signing for PSG is a childhood dream."
Ben Arfa has not played since December 10th thanks to injury, and has seen his team drop perilously close to the relegation zone, before Mike Ashley orchestrated a stunning transfer window that saw five French players brought in to join compatriots Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye on Tyenside. And the Frenchman appears dedicated to the cause, which was made a lot easier thanks to back to back wins at Aston Villa and at home to Chelsea, according to the same Telegraph quotes - though he did stress that he would consider moving if the club's ambition didn't match his own:
€œI get on really well with the coach . You want to fight for him. The fans are great too. I€™m under contract with Newcastle and I€™m very happy there... I will speak to the president and the coach at the end of the season. If there is no ambition at Newcastle, maybe I will leave."
Quite how that has been effected since the signings of Moussa Sissoko, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Yoan Gouffran, Massadio Haidara and Mathieu Debuchy remains to be confirmed. Either way, the 25-year-old is contracted to Newcastle until the summer of 2015 and would command a sizeable fee (suggested as £25m by the Telegraph). The Guardian point out that Ben Arfa is older than any of the signings Liverpool have made since Rodgers took charge at Anfield and that Newcastle's asking price could prove an obstacle, but that Newcastle's interest in re-signing Carroll could work to the Anfield club's advantage and an exchange deal. Currently West Ham have an option to buy Carroll at the end of the season, if he does well, but his form and injuries so far might stand in the way of that move, and Carroll might just find himself heading back to the North East. If it happens, Liverpool will be getting an astonishingly talented player in Ben Arfa, but they will inevitably have to admit failure on the Carroll deal. Do you think Liverpool should sign Ben Arfa?
