1. Samuel Eto€™o

Source: The Telegraph Liverpool€™s decline probably began back in the 09/10 season, in 08/09 Liverpool finished second but the following season they managed just 7th. The summer of 2009 was a disappointing one where they signed the likes of Alberto Aquillani. They were linked with then Barcelona star Samuel Eto€™o. Nothing ever came of the deal and it never would. He was linked with a move as Liverpool needed back up for Torres. Eto€™o is many things but not back up. Under Benitez, Liverpool liked to play with one striker and the Cameroonian would never dream of going to a club where he would be playing second fiddle. To most people in football it was clear the club was in decline, Alonso and Arbeloa left the club and it was clear they didn€™t have the power they once did. Eto€™o wasn€™t going to join a club on the down to sit on the bench. He ended up at Inter Milan and won the Champions League, good choice Samuel. Did we miss any other ludicrous transfer links?
