Man City Transfers: 5 Players Manuel Pellegrini Can Do Without

By Adam Williams /

3. Jack Rodwell

Like Guidetti, Jack Rodwell has been given few opportunities in the City first team since his arrival from Everton in 2012. The management team aren€™t solely to blame for this though, with Rodwell being plagued by injury throughout his senior career so far. There€™s no doubting his potential €“ we saw that he has the capability to develop into one of England€™s top players during his time at Everton, but first team football is a must at this stage of his career, and is something he is struggling to come by in a squad packed full of world class internationals. It would be pointless for City to sell Rodwell, who was surely signed with a view to him developing into a crucial first team player in the future, so loaning him out is the only real option. A move this January is unlikely though, as Pellegrini announced in his press conference on 10th January that Rodwell was again out injured and unavailable for their trip to St James€™ Park.
