Man City Transfers: 5 Potential Replacements For Yaya Toure

By Joseph Dempsey /

5. Ross Barkley

If Manchester City are looking to replace Yaya Toure this summer they need not look too far afield for a replacement - one could be staring them right in the face in the Premier League. Ross Barkley has been exceptional for Everton over the last couple of months, and played a pivotal role in helping his side finish fifth last season, scoring six goals. His promising performances helped him earn a spot on England manager Roy Hodgson's 23-man World Cup squad this summer, and at just 20 he has all the makings of a future star. He is quick on the ball and deceptively strong, and is renowned for his lung-busting charges through midfield in a similar fashion to Toure. Recent reports suggest City are considering making a move for the young England international this this transfer window, and are lining up a £25 million bid that would also include ex-Toffees star Jack Rodwell in part exchange. It remains to be seen if Everton are prepared to part with their prized asset, or indeed whether City will go for someone with relative inexperience to replace the veteran Toure, but it's certainly an option.
