"To be honest with you I have no idea why Nani took it. I think Nani just ran and grabbed the ball. I thought Robin should have taken it, to be honest with you. I think we will have to decide before the game, which is my fault, I should have done that."
This comment was a clear indication of Ferguson's irritance, and although he attempted to deflect the attention from his player onto himself, as is his custom, Nani's impudence cannot be ignored. Unlike his Portuguese compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, he cannot provide both style and substance, nor can he substantiate his ambition of being one of the world's top players. Though the comparisons between the two are throroughly worn out, there are parallels between them when it comes to their approach; take for example, the way in which Nani took his penalty against Galatasary, a clear replica of Ronaldo's own technique. The difference is, Ronaldo, more often than not, produces results time and time again, and therefore his ego is tolerated by his peers and the fans that come to watch him play. It is almost certain that his contract dispute, however ridiculous it may be, will be resolved sooner or later. For Nani, the same cannot be said of his wranglings with United, therefore it will be no surprise if he exits in the near future.
