Man Utd 0-1 Newcastle - Alan Pardew Praises Win Of The Season

By Joseph Dempsey /

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew praised his side following their win of the season so far after they won at Old Trafford for the first time since 1972. A single Yohan Cabaye goal was enough to give the Magpies a rare victory in these parts and heap yet more pressure on under fire United manager David Moyes. The win comes following Pardew being named manager of the month for November, a month which saw the north east side beat the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea. And Pardew ranks this win here above even those aforementioned two, as he saw his side jump to sixth in the table. Comparing Newcastle's win over United to the Spurs and Chelsea victories, Pardew commented:
"I think this is above those as this is a very difficult place to come, I think it's a difficult place in terms of the stadium, the aura of it, and you've got to concentrate for 90 minutes."
Newcastle finally broke their duck against United having come painfully close to a win at the Theatre of the Dreams before, particularly in last December's 4-3 defeat. Recalling those agonies, Pardew continued:
"We came here last year, and we were 3-2 up with about nine minutes to go, and really and truly it was a couple of errors in that period that cost us the win, now today when we scored that was what I was most concerned about, that you've got to concentrate and play every moment on this pitch to win here, and we did that."
As for United, this result raises further question marks over their failing title defence, and the champions could find themselves 15 points behind leaders Arsenal by the end of the weekend.
