Man Utd Transfer News: Van Persie Offer Was "Less Than £10m"

The Daily Star suggest that Manchester United offered significantly less than £30m for want-away Dutch striker

the Daily Star today, Manchester United offered significantly less than Arsenal's asking price of £30m for want-away Dutch striker Robin Van Persie in their attempts to bring last season's 37-goal player of the year to Old Trafford. Those reports suggest that the offer made was in fact "understood to have been less than £10m", placing it closer to Juventus' suggested opening gambit of £8 million as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport earlier this month. United have been widely linked all summer with a move for the Dutchman, who picked up a number of awards last term, including the PFA's Player of the Year and who earlier in the transfer window confirmed that he would not be signing a new contract at the club. One stumbling block for United might be the striker's wage demands, which The Sun quoted as £10 million a year, which would equate to about £195,000 a week, close to Wayne Rooney's £200k a week, suggested by the same source. According to the Daily Mail, United will face a battle for the striker's signature as both Juventus and Man City are interested in hijacking any deal for the lethal striker, though both will have to offer more than this suggested sub-£10 million offer from Sir Alex Ferguson's side. What do you think United fans? Should Sir Alex go back in with an offer closer to £30 million for Van Persie? Would you like to see the Dutchman joining up with Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford?
