Castan has had a fantastic season for Roma, stepping up to the plate when they most needed him after last summers departure of Mehdi Benatia to Bayern Munich. Brazilian Castan arrived at the Stadio Olimpico in 2012, but it wasnt until Rudi Garcia arrived the following season that he really started to make an impression. In terms of style of play, Castan is a tough-as-nails centre-back who fits the bill as to what Utd are crying out for. Hes also a leader from the back, again something that Utd need, and is a huge favourite with the Roma faithful. Whilst Utd need a tough-tackling centre-back, Castan is predominantly a lift-sided centre-half, which is the position that Marcos Rojo currently fills. That said, Rojo can also operate as a left-back if needed. Whether Roma would be prepared to let such a key figure leave, that remains to be seen. That said, everybody in football has their price, and Italian football is notorious for not being able to say no to the big bids. If Utd were to go in with a serious bid, you'd have to think that Roma would find it hard to say no, especially as finances supposedly played a huge part in why they sold Benatia to Bayern after just one season.
