Lining up alongside Mats Hummels in Man Utd's new-look defence next season could be Benfica's highly-rated centre-half Ezequiel Garay. The 27-year-old is a long-term target of the clubs and was linked with a move back in the Sir Alex Ferguson era, though has thus far stayed in Portugal, where he helped Benfica reach this year's Europa League final for a second-season running. The Argentinian has a 20 million release clause - worth about £17 million - but United are hoping for a discount with the defender's contract set to expire. Garay has big-game experience having played for Real Madrid in the past, where he won the Copa de Rey in 2011, and has played in each of the last two Europa League finals with Benfica. At 6'2" he is a tough and imposing centre-back of the Rio Ferdinand mould with good aerial ability and a tough tackle to match. He has to be one of van Gaal's priority signings this summer. Value: Around £15 million
