Sky Sports are reporting that new Everton manager Marco Silva wants to speak with Wayne Rooney before the English striker puts pen-to-paper on a deal with DC United in MLS.

Talks between Rooney and the Washington side are said to be in "advanced stages", and it's understood that the two-year deal would see the player take home around £3.8 million per season. That's not something Silva wants to get in the way of, but he does want to establish what kind of future Rooney sees at Goodison Park.

During his first press conference as Everton manager, Silva said that, as far as he's concerned, the door is always open for Wayne.

Sky also said that Rooney has agreed (in principle) a return after his two years in MLS are up to take on a coaching post at Everton. Perhaps that's what Silva is referring to, not any last-minute bid to keep the forward in the Premier League as a player.

Interestingly though, the club's director of football Marcel Brands said there was still some hope of Rooney staying in England. At this point, that seems a tad unrealistic.
