New Chelsea Manager: 5 Best Options Now Pep Guardiola Is No Longer Available

By Joseph Dempsey /

5. Rafael Benitez

Probably an unpopular choice on paper given the vociferous protests that occurred during Chelsea's first home game following the appointment of the former Liverpool manager, but considering he is currently the incumbent manager at Chelsea, it seemed only fair to lend him consideration. Benitez was appointed on an interim basis as Chelsea manager following the dismissal of Roberto Di Matteo and there has been a growing feeling that his appointment as Blues Boss was never going to be one with any sort of longevity. He was only initially going to be there on a short-term basis whilst he kept the seat warm for someone like Pep Guardiola, but that idea went out of the window when the Spaniard announced he was to join Bayern Munich in the summer. Perhaps it is time now for Roman Abramovic to try something he has never tried before - consistency. There's a growing list of "former" Chelsea managers that is becoming the butt of all jokes in the football community and if Abramovic is going to enjoy continued success with the Blues then perhaps he needs to stick with a manager instead of hitting the "eject" button at the first sign of trouble.
