Newcastle "Make Second Bid" For 32-Goal Hitman
It looks like it could be a case of one in and one out at St James' Park...
will make a second bid of around £5 million for Benik Afobe after seeing a first offer rejected by the Championship side. The Magpies' need for a striker has heightened in the last few days as rumours of Papiss Cisse leaving for Galatasaray gather pace. 22-year-old Afobe, who scored a staggering 32 goals for both MK Dons and Wolverhampton Wanderers last season, has been earmarked as the Toon's top target to replace the Senegalese forward - who was dropped for Saturday's 0-0 draw against Manchester United. Interest in the former Arsenal youth team player is supposed to be high - with Premier League new boys Norwich seeing a bid rejected last week. This hasn't affected the striker's form however, as he has already notched three goals this term. United's current number nine Cisse, who scored an impressive 11 goals in 22 appearances last season and is already off the mark this, has two years left on his current contract and has stated he is prepared to stay in the North East as long as he is being picked. He said earlier this month: I have a contract at Newcastle United. I need to be professional every time I play. I dont have a team to leave to. I am a Newcastle player. I try to work hard in every game I get. For all the latest NUFC News, Views and Transfers make sure to followWhatCulture.com/NUFC on Twitter and Facebook.
