Choosing favourites is always a difficult prospect, particularly when there are so many options. Despite the apparent limits of simple black and white stripes (which the club seem to want to mess up every season in some way) there has been a massive variation in the strips that Newcastle have worn over the years, and fans will have many favourites from over the years they've spent supporting Newcastle United. Narrowing down those favourites to a short-list is a difficult prospect, as some are so iconic that they forever be remembered as part and parcel of Newcastle United history. Arguably the most famous strip is the simple black and white stripes that the Magpies wore when we almost won the Premier League in the 1995/96 season, before Si Alex Ferguson's side pegged back an almost unassailable lead. And why wouldn't it be? After all, this was the shirt that The Entertainers wore, and most of the greatest Premier League memories for Newcastle fans came while the team wore it. We all have our own memories and our favourites because of those moments. Younger fans will forever remember the shirts we wore for the 5-1 drubbing of Sunderland, and most of the older generation love the Fairs Cup final shirt. And of course there are some fans who will probably base their favourite shirt on who sponsored us at the time or who their favourite player was. When Wonga became our sponsor a lot of fans slammed the strips due to the nature of the company and no matter how pretty those shirts might have been, they would probably never be anyone's favourite shirts. Strangely, though, the yellow third strip that carried their logo quickly became a favourite. So which is your favourite NUFC shirt? Are you a fan of the home shirts of old, or the aways?
