Newcastle United have signed winger Florian Thauvin from Marseille, with Remy Cabella going the other way, and the Magpies have now made five additions this summer. The 22-year-old winger joins Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Chancel Mbemba and Ivan Toney in moving to Tyneside during this window, and Newcastle are now the fifth club of Thauvin's relatively-short career. Having progressed through the ranks at Grenoble (three appearances, no goals), he moved to Bastia in 2011 when the former was liquidated, netting an impressive 10 goals and contributing four assists in 51 games - also helping them to the Ligue 2 title. Bizarrely for the final six months of his time at Bastia, Thauvin was technically a Lille player. Yet, after being loaned straight back to the Corsican club, he never actually made an appearance for Lille before being signed by Marseille in the summer of 2013. In the subsequent two seasons, 15 goals and 14 assists arrived for Thauvin in 81 games as he enjoyed some magnificent performances - as well as some extremely poor displays - during 24 months at the Stade Velodrome. A player long tracked by Newcastle's chief scout Graham Carr, Thauvin finally arrives at St James' Park this summer after years of being courted by the Magpies. In his career to date, Thauvin has had some extreme highs - including scoring seven goals in just 10 France Under-21 caps - but also some pretty severe lows.
