Newcastle United still retain hope of signing Patrick Bamford on loan next season despite the striker being offered a new five-year deal at Chelsea - and the appointment of Steve McClaren could speed up any potential transfer. Although the Blues have moved to secure Bamfords future, Jose Mourinho is believed to be willing to let the 21-year-old go out on loan to gain Premier League experience next season - with Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Everton waiting in the wings. The forward has netted 19 goals during 43 appearances while on loan at Middlesbrough last season and he could well become McClaren's first signing on Tyneside, should the ex-Derby County boss be confirmed as head coach within the next few days. McClaren took Bamford to the iPro Stadium on loan in 2013-14 and he was keen to renew that deal last summer, only for Boro to swoop in ahead of him. Mourinho even visited Brentfords Griffin Park last monthto watch Bamford during Boros first-leg play-off tie with the west London club - and the Portuguese boss was impressed by what he saw. The Times claim a new long-term deal has been offered to Bamford by the Blues, but the ex-Boro loanee is yet to make a decision on his future. Having started his career at Nottingham Forest, Bamford moved to Chelsea in 2012 and has enjoyed loan spells at Milton Keynes Dons, Derby County and Boro since. The twice-capped England Under-21 international has netted a total of 48 goals in 112 career matches to date, an impressive record for someone who can play as a striker or as a wider forward.
