Dutch newspaper AD claims that Newcastle United want to sign Wolfsburg forward Bas Dost this summer. United are allegedly leading a pack of Premier League clubs, which includes Southampton, who want to sign the 26-year-old. It's a signing that would certainly be a statement of intent by the club as they would be purchasing one of the leading marksmen in Europe last season. Dost managed to get on the scoresheet 20 times in 36 appearances. The Magpies could have quite a strike force next season after it was revealed that the club are edging closer to making Queens Park Rangers' striker Charlie Austin their first summer buy. The recent England call-up could cost in the region of £15 million while Dost could cost anywhere above £10 million. Maybe Newcastle's owner Mike Ashley WILL dip his hands into his pockets this summer... Every single transfer window Andy Carroll is linked with a return to the club, and since this has rumour already come and gone in the 2015 summer window, it looks like new head coach Steve McClaren and chief scout Graham Carr have set their sights on another target man. Dost stands at 6 feet 5 inches tall and would undoubtedly offer Newcastle something they have lacked since their former number nine departed for Liverpool in January 2011; an ariel threat from set pieces...
