NUFC Transfer News: Daryl Janmaat Already Thinking Of Jumping Ship

Dutch defender takes his eye off the task in hand as he talks of his future back in Holland.

Daryl Janmaat has not exactly endeared himself to Newcastle United supporters in recent days - first of all he got himself stupidly dismissed against Leicester City at the weekend, and now he has already started talking up life away from St James' Park. Magpies interim head coach John Carver tore into Janmaat for what he called a "stupid" 90th-minute second yellow, with the game long-since gone at 3-0 and the Magpies already down to 10 men, and the defender now appears to have focused his gaze away from the task at hand - which should be keeping Newcastle in the Premier League. Janmaat will be suspended for West Bromwich Albion's visit to St James' on Saturday, but he will be available for the matches against Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United - yet he has already stated that he would "like" to return to Feyenoord one day.
Although the 25-year-old, who still has five years remaining on his contract, does not state he wants to leave now, he also offers no reassurances that he will remain on Tyneside next season - regardless of the division Newcastle find themselves in. The right-back has been one of Newcastle's standout performers this campaign, but he has revealed hat he has thought about returning to play for his former sides ADO Den Haag and Feyenoord in the future.
Speaking to Omroepwest.nl in his native Holland, 23-cap international Janmaat - who signed form £6 million last summer - stated:
"If I think about it now, I would like to return to Feyenoord and ADO if I return to the Eredivisie. "We will just have to see how fit I am, because I am still very young."
Newcastle have lost eight games in a row for the first time in their Premier League history and their top-flight status is very much under threat - yet their players are already looking to pastures new. If the rest of the squad are thinking like Janmaat, then the hopes of survival appear slim at best.
