In Liverpool's topsy-turvy season, the one constant has been the exceptional performances of Luis Suarez. A player who has been branded with such adjectives as dishonest and inconsistent (to name some of the less unsavoury words) has now found his feet in the Premier League. And his feet aren't constantly now collapsing due to little/no contact to the extent it did in the past. Suarez has now moved on from a player that could always work his way into great opportunities almost single-handedly and then squanders the chance to score, and has taken far more of his chances to score over twenty goals in the league this year. With Gerrard as his closest goalscoring rival in the team having only nine for the year, Suarez's goals have been vital in keeping Liverpool in a respectable position, and he also has the second-highest assists as well this year. The tandem between Suarez and Gerrard has been the positive crux of Liverpool's mixed season, and Suarez's unbelievable trickery and improved finishing has made him a handful for virtually all defences he has faced this season. He's almost certainly been the most consistently strong performer in a league full of inconsistent performers, and if all things were fair he would be my outright choice to win the award for this campaign. But, unfortunately, the Uruguayan has seen his name dragged through the mud so often in the past that it could inhibit the judges' selection process. The race scandal, the diving incidents, his less than satisfactory disciplianry record. At least Ryan Giggs and John Terry were able to win the award before being outed as moronic cheats and sociopaths. Will they overlook his past to focus on his fantastic present performances? Chances of winning: High, but dependent on overlooking of his questionable past antics
