Aston Villa certainly seemed to have made progress under Paul Lambert so far this season, progress that is particularly more interesting from a defensive point of view. Lambert is certainly driven to play attacking football but there are signs that he can adapt. Perhaps one of the reasons behind that is the form of Fabian Delph in the middle of the pitch. Delph has been Villas star performer this season, while others such as Christian Benteke have flattered to deceive. Delphs league average rating of 7.45 is certainly impressive and makes him the 20th most consistent player in the league this season. He is a player of great pace and ability, but its his defensive skills that have really been highlighted this season. The player previously performed well for Leeds United where he emerged from their youth system, and drew Villa's attention. He is still only 24, so would certainly make a good investment for a bigger club at this point, and the one big reason why he might fancy a move is to improve his chances of making Englands World Cup squad in Brazil.
