Yorkshire wheelchair athlete Hannah Cockroft is the leading Paralympian to have made a big impact in 2013 following the legacy of the London 2012 Paralympic games, where she won a gold medal in the 100m T34. Cockroft kicked off her impressive year at Buckingham Palace, where she received a MBE from The Queen, before retaining both her 100m and 200m titles at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France in July. Also in July, the 21 year old, who has picked up the nickname 'Hurricane Hannah', smashed the stadium record for the T33/T34 100m at the Anniversary Games with a time of 17 seconds and 80 milliseconds, the second record she had broken in the stadium. The Halifax born athlete is still very young and has a massive career ahead of her, so we could expect to see her on this shortlist again one day, but unfortunately this isn't her year.
