Another striking option is Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain, and with the reigning Spanish champions prepared to sell, Tottenham could be interested. Villas-Boas attempted to bring the forward to White Hart Lane last summer but Madrid weren't interested in offers at the time and the move failed to materialise. However, that situation has now changed and with Los Blancos now more inclined to take bids, a summer deal could at last be on the cards. Madrid's general manager Jose Angel Sanchez has confirmed the highly-rated 25-year-old will be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season. He said:
In a great club like Real, we believe we need two number nines of a high level. We have Benzema and Higuain, Higuain will leave, Benzema will stay and two others will come.
That would then seem to set up a clear passage for Spurs to make an offer.
