Spurs Transfers: 6 Must-Sign Players And How They'd Fit In

5. Leighton Baines (Everton)

Who is he? Leighton Baines is an attacking left-back who plays for Everton and England, providing real competition to Ashley Cole for a starting berth in the national team for the first time since the Chelsea man started playing at international level. He is also a free kick specialist and he used to play for Wigan Athletic. How would he fit in? He'd fit in as Spurs' first-choice left-back. While there is no desperate need for a new left-back in the Tottenham squad, Benoit Assou-Ekotto doesn't seem to be favoured by Andre Villas-Boas and his form has suffered as a consequence - it's also no secret that he's prone to errors - while Kyle Naughton is naturally right-footed and Jan Vertonghen prefers to play in his strongest position at centre back. Bringing in Baines would give Spurs a natural, top class left-back who could rival Gareth Bale for the free-kick taking stakes and generally provide a stronger option in a position which definitely could do with reinforcements if Spurs are really wanting to compete at the very top level of European football.
