Sunderland Transfers: 5 Reasons Poyet MUST Sign Michael Dawson

By Simon Gallagher /

3. Unwanted = Cheap

It€™s become very obvious that Spurs are not interested in keeping Dawson, who at 30 years old still has a good few years ahead of him at the top level. With Pochettino looking to build his own ethos at the club, and the apparent attempt to sign Villarreal€™s Mateo Musacchio - as well as the signing of Eric Dier - it looks like that might include a new back-line. The benefit there is that last season€™s club captain is likely to cost significantly less than any potential target who won€™t be available for transfer. And cheap is the kind of deal that Sunderland should be drawn to, particularly with Rodwell costing £10m and Borini potentially costing £14m. For a club like Sunderland right now, money needs to be spent in the areas of the pitch that will affect victories the most, and though defence is undoubtedly important, less funds spent at the back means more potential to invest in creative players.
