One of the things that disappoints and frustrates me about this decision is that the Swansea board having looked at the bigger picture. I can certainly understand that its concerning when you find yourself only a couple of points above the relegation zone. However, there are plenty of teams involved in the battle for survival and many of them have much bigger problems than the Swans. Im not aware of any specific statistics on this, but teams involved in the Europa League usually struggle in the league. This is especially the case if the squad is thin in terms of numbers, and thats certainly the case with Swansea. The fact that they have struggled for league consistency this season shouldnt have come as a major surprise, its largely the cost for going for glory in Europe. The Welsh club are also competing in the FA Cup, and lets not forget that they are still relatively new to the EPL as this is just their third consecutive season at this level. Under the circumstances, you cant say that they have a divine right to being in the top-half of the league, but this decision more or less suggests thats the opinion of the Swansea board.
