Tottenham Vs Arsenal: 5 Key Things We Learned

5. Arsenal Have A Fragile Defence

The need for Arsenal to either bolster their defence or vastly improve communications between their current defenders was all too clear to see on Sunday. Tottenham scored two near-identical goals in the space of two minutes and the Arsenal back four - particularly the centre back pairing of Vermaelen and Mertesacker - were left looking at each other in bewilderment, expecting the other(s) to hold their hands up and take accountability for the goals. At Premier League level, this simply isn't good enough. Arsenal have a strong team, particularly in midfield, full of top class players. But if they are to put a stop to the current slip down the league table (they're in 5th, lower than they have finished the season for 16 years), their defence needs to tighten up quickly. Whether that means focusing on communication in training or bringing in some new blood is open to debate.
