Transfer Deadline Day: 6 Reasons We'll Never Stop Hating It

What better way to bring in more followers and Retweets than to €œbreak€ a story about a foreign based player about to complete a medical ahead of a big money move to the Premier League? And of course, that sort of information tends to stick better if the source comes with the invaluable ITK badge, whether that source is actually as €œin the know€ as they might suggest. These are the worst kind of growths on the modern game, feeding off the normal fan's insatiable need for information by dropping hints based on their knowledge of the inner workings of certain clubs, or their experience working in the game. And of course they establish enough facts to make them just about believable (citing that one deal eight years ago they guessed right) and we all fal for it hook line and sinker. And then when the window closes and the deal fails to materialise, they shrug their digital shoulders and cite unforeseen circumstances, or a failure to push the deal €œover the line,€ or Derek Llambias' unwillingness to pay the right wages, and we all slump in disappointment. But then we fall for it again in six months time. And then again after that.
