For years now, club managers have tried to protect their best assets by asking them to 'feign' injuries so they don't have to play for the national team. This is something that infuriates me, not just on the clubs' behalf but on the FA's too. Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge was 'conveniently' ruled out of England's crucial World Cup qualifiers recently due to aggravating a thigh strain. Now I'm sure this is a legitimate reason to start a game as a substitute, but to be enough to rule him out of two national games smells a little fishy to me. No doubt Sturridge will have been involved, should Liverpool have played away at Swansea last weekend. For me, the management of Jack Wilshere's vulnerability could be the way forward for solving the Club v Country war. Either that, or the FA enforce some sort of rule that requires various checks on the 'injuries' to players, claimed by their club sides.
