Wolves Manager: Top 5 Candidates To Replace Stale Solbakken

5 replacements for Stale Solbakken

By Joseph Dempsey /

Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked managed Stale Solbakken after just six months at the helm following a series of bad results at the Molineux. Wolves were surprisingly knocked out of the FA Cup 3rd Round yesterday by conference side Luton, and this proved to be the last straw for the impatient board, who sacked him just hours after the embarrassment. Wolves aren't doing much better in the Championship, either. Solbakken only won 11 of his 30 games in charge, losing 15 and drawing 4. That leaves the side 18th in the league, hovering just 6 points above the relegation zone. Wolves were relegated from the Premier League only last season and were one of the favourites for promotion this season, but the club have gone through two managers since then, after Terry Connor replaced sacked Mick McCarthy on an interim basis before Solbakken took charge. But the club are once again rudderless now and face the challenge of appointing a new manager as soon as possible if they are to reverse their fortunes in the league and avoid a second successive relegation. Here are five managers who we think could replace Stale Solbakken at the Molineux.

5. Mick McCarthy

Mick McCarthy was captured on camera by Sky News in February last year pulling away from the Molineux with a storage box sat next to him, stating that he'd leave "with his head held high". He had spent six years at Wolves, but a 5-1 home thrashing by West Bromwich Albion proved to be the straw that broke the camels back, and McCarthy was given the boot. He is currently manager of Ipswich Town however, and so the re-appointment of McCarthy, as romantic and nostalgic as it might sound, seems incredibly unlikely at this stage. Chances - 4/10 McCarthy was only just appointed manager of Ipswitch Town in November. Source(s): Telegraph
