World Cup 2014: 5 Things England Must Consider In Group D

2. England Must Attack To Survive

As a continuation of the previous point, overall this will be a tough group where containing the opposition will simply not be enough to progress. It always disappoints me to see England utilizing such a tactic, this is because our best players are attacking ones €“ but they rarely get the opportunity to express themselves. To date, Fabio Capello and Roy Hodgson have used pretty defensive tactics and that attacking football that we all crave has been missing. People constantly tell me that the Premier League way wouldn't work at international level, but I would like us to at least see it action before I agree. I'm hoping Group D will force Hodgson hand to some degree and he may decide that we need to attack in order to survive. I know that defensive or containment football is a huge frustration to attacking players and that pressure may also play a part ahead of this World Cup. It will certainly be interesting to see if England feels they are good enough to attack against the best countries in world football.
