Former Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd once risked the wrath of the Geordie faithful when insulting Newcastle€™s all time top goal scorer, Alan Shearer.

Shepherd stated €œAlan Shearer is just boring; we call him Mary Poppins.€

The chairman later apologised for being so disrespectful, but as avid viewers of Match Of The Day would agree, Shepherd was probably right.
