Youssouf Mulumbu Reveals Newcastle & Tottenham Transfer Talks
West Brom's want-away midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has held talks with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur about a potential summer move, according to the player himself.
We have already started talking to teams like Newcastle and Tottenham. For now, Im leaving it all in the hands of my agent and I hope to have good surprises on my return from vacation.The news comes barely two weeks since the player hinted on Twitter that he was looking for pastures new when he cryptically tweeted;
Chelsea, Liverpool or Newcastle next seasonMulumbu was named West Broms player of the season last year and is currently tied to the club until 2015 after signing for the club in 2009 for a fee of just £175,000 after a successful loan spell. However after becoming the Baggies star midfielder it would now take a big offer for the Midlands club to part with their midfielder. Though the player does seem insistent on a move. His interview with Mercato 365 continues;
Last year, I thought it would be a little premature to go because it was my first full season. But I confirmed my promise this season. I continued to show all my abilities and I think I now have to look for another challenge. Thats why I hope to join a club in another class. I had a good year, Im pretty confident and I will leave it now to my agent. Im going to go on holiday and come back stronger because I know that another big season ahead.Zaire born Mulumbu has played twelve times for DR Congo having previously played for the France U21s, though he stated his decision to retire from international football back in September. He started his career at Paris Saint-Germain. Having released Danny Guthrie and high-earner Alan Smith from the club on June 1st, Newcastle are looking to strengthen the center of midfield and have some money freed up from the wages of those departing, which also include Peter Lovenkrands. The Magpies are also conscious that they will likely lose Cheick Tiote for at least a month in January because of the African Cup of Nations and are always looking over their shoulder in case an Andy Carroll like offer came in for their midfield general. Mulumbu is proven Premier League talent and would likely be available for £4 million.
