10 Awesome TV Shows Cancelled Before Their Time

1. Firefly

Joss Whedon's criminally cancelled space western is one of the greatest TV shows ever made...despite only lasting for 14 episodes (11 of which were only initially aired). The show revolves around the crew of a ship, led by Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), as they go on various adventures and get themselves into lots of hilarious trouble along the way. The main reason the show works isn't the production quality (which is strong) or the stories, but the exceptional casting, and Whedon's impossibly witty script. FOX were up to their usual tricks here, though; they demanded that an action-centric episode be the first to air, which made no sense story-wise. They also put it in the Friday night slot of doom, and marketed the show as a flat-out comedy. Ratings were poor, though the show was a success on DVD, such that fans got the excellent movie Serenity as a reward. Regrettably, the film didn't do enough business for a sequel, which is a real shame. Campaigns continue today to try and get another series made, but it's really just a pipe dream.
