2016 was a bad year overall for Agent Peggy Carter. She passed away off-screen in Captain America: Civil War at the ripe age of 95, and then her former love Steve Rogers immediately hooked up with her niece! Adding fresh insult is the fact her show was canned after two seasons on ABC, and looks very unlikely to be continued elsewhere.

Despite the character being a fan favourite and the show giving fans a unique look at the early day of S.H.I.E.L.D, the show’s ratings were always an issue. It may have had great characters and solid storylines, but the low viewership essentially doomed it.

This is pretty heartbreaking for fans of the series or the character in general, since it’s hard to see how she could fit into another MCU movie, outside of the odd flashback appearance.
