10. Ms. French's Kids

Natalie French was everything that a school would want in a substitute teacher. She was passionate about what she taught. She was an excellent teacher. The students really liked her. The male students, in particular. The fact that she was a giant Preying Mantis was really just a sidenote, to be honest. The kids were learning and isn't that what's most important?

Her overall plan involved capturing virgin boys and using them to fertilise her eggs, which she had strung up in sacs all around her basement. Naturally, Xander falls for her charms (pheromones) and is taken captive, though he is saved by a combination of Buffy's fighting skills and Giles's research skills - skills that involve recording bat sonar.

All of the eggs in Mrs. French's house are destroyed and the group go about their business, with another (though not the last) failed romance to add to the cards.

However.

In the final shot of the episode, the closet door is slowly closed, but not quickly enough for the audience to miss the opening eggs of some more of Mrs. French's children. Did they survive? Did they escape Sunnydale? Were they living in the school the whole time? To be fair, Sunnydale High had such a mortality rate that it is very possible they could have operated without being noticed for a long time! But still....seems like a fairly large oversight!
