10 Comic Book TV Shows Cancelled Before Their Time

9. The Cape (2011)

NBC got into the superhero game with Heroes in 2006 and while that series was cancelled early, it found a new life years later. When Heroes came to an end, NBC developed another new series which was inspired by comics but created entirely for the network, as a new property called The Cape in 2011.

The Cape was a huge success when it first aired, but almost immediately saw declining ratings which pushed the network to reduce the number of episodes ordered for the first season from 13 down to 10. Shortly after that announcement, the network cancelled the series and moved the remaining episodes to its website as the only place it could be seen.

The series followed the adventures of Vincent "Vince" Faraday, a former soldier and police officer who learns the ways of circuscraft and illusion so he can use a special cape made entirely of spider-silk to his advantage.

Elements of Batman and other similar crimefighting superheroes without powers clearly inspired development of The Cape and while it retains a large cult following, only 10 episodes were ever made, leaving many wanting more. Fortunately, a webcomic was released to supplement the series, but few fans were satisfied.
