10 Doctor Who Actors You Won't Recognise Out Of Costume

By Dan Butler /

1. Dan Starkey

Well, you probably recognise Dan Starkey now, since he's just appeared in Doctor Who in the much more recognisable role as Ian, one of Santa's elves, in last year's festive escapade, Last Christmas. Before that, though, he could probably walk down the street without being recognised for his contributions to the Whoniverse because it's no exaggeration to say that he looks very, very different to the character for which he is most acclaimed. He first appeared as a Sontaran in the 2008 two-parter The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky but has since made a name for himself as one of the potato headed humanoids in particular, Commander Strax. As one third of the Paternoster Gang, Strax is always there to add his unique touch to the proceedings and, amidst an extra terrestrial excursion, he's likely to lull you into a false sense of security, by making you howl with laughter, before casually blowing your brains out in the name of the Sontaran empire. Suffice to say, there's never a dull moment with Strax. What did you think of this list? Are there any other Doctor Who actors you wouldn't recognise out of their costume?
